Prototyping & Test Engineer
This role allows for a wide range of activities and requires wearing many hats. If you're looking for a place where you see your work fly to orbit in a matter of months, this is a place for you.
We usually respond within three days
We're looking for a Prototyping & Test Engineer to join our growing product development team. As our new teammate, you'll be a hands-on "maker" who thrives on bringing concepts to life. If you have a passion for building, testing, and troubleshooting—from prototyping on an electrical breadboard / soldering wires on a custom circuit to drilling a new fixture on a column drill—this role is for you.
Your main responsibility will be to support the development of next-generation spacecraft components by prototyping, building and executing engineering tests. You’ll work closely with our design teams, providing critical, real-world data that directly influences the systems we build. This is a unique opportunity to play a crucial part in a fast-paced environment where your contributions will have a tangible impact on our space systems.
Starting month: October-November 2025
Working language: English (also the language of the recruitment process)
Working location: Turin, Italy
Your mission
- You will build prototypes of mechanical and electromechanical systems—including spacecraft mechanisms and ground support equipment—and then validate their performance through hands-on testing and analysis;
- You will create essential documentation for your designs, including technical drawings and test reports, to ensure our processes are clear and repeatable.
- You'll play an active, hands-on role in the Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) of our prototypes, helping to ensure our space systems and related ground equipment are built to the highest standards.
What you bring to the table
- Background in an engineering field;
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in a prototyping, lab, or engineering development environment.
- Demonstrated experience building and testing prototypes (can be in professional setting, in a student association or at home) - we are looking for a person who can take a concept from a napkin to the first scrappy prototype fast.
- Proficiency with prototyping methods and tools such as 3D printing, Arduino/Raspberry Pi-based systems assembly and coding, and basic machining (e.g., cutting, drilling, etc.).
- Basic use of CAD systems to create and modify designs for prototyping and test fixtures.
- Solid engineering basics in heat transfer, mechanics of structures, electrical circuits, materials, software.
- Proficient use of English (speaking and writing).
Nice to have:
Sharing your portfolio of projects (anything that can show you are a tinkerer: from building an automatic flower watering station to a walking robot) will make you stand out and make it much easier for us to assess your profile.
What we offer:
- Goal-oriented environment with flexible working hours;
- Possibility of occasional remote work - the role is focused on hands-on activities, therefore this aspect is highly dependent on the period and planned activities;
- International team driven by passion and commitment;
- Company activities and retreats;
- Buoni pasto;
- Hands-on experience with the design, manufacturing, and testing of space-grade systems;
- Direct impact on a NewSpace startup in the heart of Europe’s high-tech hub.
About the hiring process:
- 15-min screening call with Gaia (HR Manager)
- 60-min in-depth technical interview with the engineering team
- 45-min behavioural interview with Marco (CEO)
